As partner of ATI in promoting food security under the Plant, Plant, Plant program of the Department of Agriculture, the QCU's Research, Extension Services, and Development (RESD) office, recently conducted a three-part webinar series on urban agriculture entitled 'PPP: Propagating Plant Power'. The webinars broadcasted via Zoom and Facebook Live aim to highlight urban gardening as an essential approach in achieving food security in the cities during these difficult times.
The university tapped some ATI Central Office's Agriculturists to provide technical expertise on various topics. During the first episode on Preparation of Organic Soil Fertilizers aired last July 14, 2020, Jomar O. Tabor shared basic knowledge and various techniques on how to make organic fertilizers. He emphasized on the advantages of using organic material to ensure a healthy soil. Subsequently on August 6, 2020, the webinar focused on Producing Organic Pesticide Concoctions, wherein Mark Nello B. Alvarez explained different methods and processes in producing organic pesticides to guarantee healthy plants and good harvest. Lastly, the final episode on Planting and Caring of Plant Produce streamed last September 25, 2020, Romermart Aubigne M. Peñamora discussed the how-to's of growing food crops in an urban setting, and some agricultural technologies used to sustain garden operations.
Participants of the event include university administrators, teachers, and students under the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of QCU. Likewise, the webinar series was extended to the public through Facebook Live that reached more interested individuals.
At the end of the last episode, Annie E. Geron, RESD Director of QCU, expressed her utmost gratitude towards ATI for the continuous support extended to the university. 'We learned a lot from all the lectures. Thank you for making it so easy to understand. Now, we will apply these new knowledge and technologies to our own gardens,' she expressed.
